Helen Keller's Birthday

Happy 139th Birthday Helen Keller !

Hellen Keller is the foundational inspiration of Lions.  Born in 1880, her June 27 birthday is commemorated as Helen Keller Day as recognized by presidential proclamation by Jimmy Carter.

Heller Keller lived an extraordinary life full of historical achievements.  As the first blind and deaf person to achieve a Bachelor of Arts degree, she campaigned for women’s suffrage and labor rights, and was an advocate worldwide for those who are blind.  Her 1925 speech at the Lions Club International Convention in Cedar Point, Iowa lives on through Lionism.

Helen Keller often spoke about what makes life worthwhile - curiosity, imagination, kindness, thanksgiving, and most importantly selflessness.  Today we Lions celebrate the life of Helen Keller and her wisdom.
